I tend to agree with the simpler answer that J. D. Crossan has suggested (as I recall). Namely, most victims of crucifixion, like Jesus, had their bodies dumped on the trash heap to add insult to injury. The tomb story is a nice explanation long after the fact. There are records of other victims that mention having to pull some political strings just to recover a body for burial.  I suppose it's possible that the bones are the real thing, but I'm highly skeptical ... and how would DNA prove anything beyond the bones' relation to each other?
