To all: Sorry, the previous report from Rev. Scott Axford should have been,
of course, part three. This is the final installment. thanks, ron
Report of the Ecumenical Officer, Council of Christian Churches in the UUA,
King's Chapel House, Oct. 15, 2006
"As your representative, I have attended meetings of an interfaith group
that came out of 9/11, Jewish/Christian dialogue meetings, and the religious
leaders'/bishops' gatherings sponsored by the Massachusetts Council of Churches.
I am struck by the remarkably complex issues that these dedicated men and
women deal with in their jobs.
"I also serve on the Mass. Council Nominating Committee; our own Tom Wintle
and Judy and Harry Hoehler are true pillars of that organization. Scott Axford
ably represents us at the National Council of Churches' Faith and Order
Commission, as does Joe Bassett at the Mass. Commission on Christian Unity (now
under the aegis of the Mass. Council of Churches). Our influence extends far
beyond our small numbers. The Council of Christian Churches in the UUA
provides our member congregations and the UUA with a vital institutional connection
with the Church and ecumenical movement.
"Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving as your ecumenical
officer. Our good friend, Rev. Diane Kessler, Executive Director of the Mass.
Council of Churches, is retiring this Spring after 32 years of service at the MCC.
I suggest that this group extend congratulations to Diane, and thank her for
her bedrock support of UU Christians.
"Respectfully submitted,
Terry Burke,
Minister, First Church in Jamaica Plain, Unitarian Universalist
