Hi all. I am back from the spiritual retreat led by the Rev. Carl Scovel and
staying with the Benedictines at Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham, Mass. The
theme was "Living in the Kingdom" and we focused on "kingdom" parables in small
groups that looked at the questions of "what and what is not the kingdom?",
"where and where not is the kingdom?" and "who is in and who is not in the
kingdom?" I was in the latter question group. And in between we would share our
discussion in the bigger group (23 people attended). We also had a chance to
explore how we would answer in parable form the question of "the kingdom of
God is..." and then we discussed why we chose the metaphors we did, and then we
dwelt with it in our own lives in response to questions of "where is it now
or not now in our lives?" Good depth. Weaving in time alone in the wonderful
setting, along with morning and evening prayer services, and communion, and a
folk sing-along from those musicians who came.

Some of you have been on retreat led by the Rev. Scovel, minister emeritus
of Kings Chapel in Boston (_www.kings-chapel.org_ (http://www.kings-chapel.org)
) before and I will just add my recommendation to get in early on the chance
when it comes up again. I believe the next one will be scheduled for the end
of October next year.

I will post more specifically in days to come about the liturgies and
services and some of the texts we used.

blessings,
