[UUA-L:559] Obituary: Rev. Dorothy Tilden Spoerl

The Reverend Dr. Dorothy T. Spoerl died Thursday, December 2, 
1999.  She was 93 years of age.

Dr. Spoerl was born March 29, 1906 in Brooklyn, New York.  Dr. 
Spoerl received an AB from Lombard College, MA from Boston 
University, Ph.D., from Clark University, STD from Starr King 
School for the Ministry and DD from Meadville/Lombard Theological 
School.  She enjoyed dual Fellowship with the Universalist Church of 
America and the American Unitarian Association.  Dr. Spoerl served 
congregations in Detroit, Michigan; Springfield, Massachusetts; 
Bath and Orono, Maine, and Hartland and Woodstock, Vermont.  

In addition to the congregations, she also served on the staff of 
Unitarian Universalist Association in the Departments of Education 
and Communications; she served on the teaching staff at Starr King 
School for the Ministry, and as Director of Religious Education at 
the Unitarian Church in Boston (Bullfinch Place).

Her son and daughter-in-law, Walter J., and Elsie Spoerl of 
Charlestown, New Hampshire and two grandchildren survive Dr. 
Spoerl.  Her husband, the Reverend Howard D. Spoerl, preceded 
her in death in 1957.  Notes of remembrance may be sent to:

There will be a celebration of her life in the spring of 2000 at Ferry
Beach in Maine.  As soon as the arrangements are complete
