World Conference on Religion and Peace
to receive Wilton Peace Prize
The World Conference on Religion and Peace (WCRP), an
international interfaith organization founded in 1970 to promote
cooperation for peace among the world's religious leaders, will
receive the Unitarian Universalist Association's Wilton Peace
Prize at a special presentation at the Harvard Divinity School on
December 10, 1999, at 4:30 p.m.
The Prize comes in recognition of the work that the WCRP has done
in recent regional conflicts in Bosnia, Sierra Leone, and Kosovo, to
bring together religious leaders from various sides of the conflict to
help broker a peaceful resolution.
The presentation, on International Human Rights Day, will feature a
report on the WCRP's Seventh World Assembly in Amman, Jordan, by
Dr. William Vendley, Secretary General of WCRP, and Fr. Antonios
Kireopoulos, Secretary General of WCRP-USA. Moderating the
presentation will be Dr. Diana Eck of the Harvard Divinity School
and the Rev. John Buehrens, UUA President. Buehrens attended the
recent WCRP meeting in Amman, and you can read his report on the
meeting at http://www.uua.org/news/wcrp/
The presentation is free and open to the public and will take place in
Sperry Room in Andover Hall on the Harvard Divinity School campus.
Light refreshments will be served in the Braun Room at 4:30. The
presentation will be at 5:15, followed by a reception in honor of Dr.
Vendley and Fr. Kireopoulos. Questions about the event can be
