1. Update on Community Building
a. Cell phone use breaking community, what is fair?
-limit usage, not during meetings unless necessary. Short calls
during free time, not the entire time because free time is for
community building. Be conscious of community.
-Have parents contact advisors in case of emergency
-Turned off or silenced during meetings?
-If someone is on call then the group knows, so no one is offended
-Make limited cell phone usage announcement during orientation and in
the registration packet sheet.
-Encourage people to turn them off
-There is a consensus on the new limited cell phone usage policy,
which is turning phones to silent during meetings, and using
discretion during free time.
b. What About Churches with Wifi?
-Very limited internet. Encouraged not to be
on myspace or facebook.
-E-mail as a primary source of communication
-internet usage for YAC needs is okay if
everyone agrees to it
-uncontrolled internet youth creates anxiety and gives more
complaints against YAC
-Apply big four plus five to websites
Scott Weaver: At YAC functions we don’t use the internet unless it’s
relevant (iTunes, or YAC resources)
Dana Poss: seconds Scott’s motion
-Colin Albea thinks email checking is okay
