Subject: GA Covenant Group
Dear Friends,
Harlan Limpert, Meg Riley, and I, with assistance from the Center for
Community Values (Thandeka, McGee, etc), are working with the Planning
Committee to gear up for offering Covenant Groups to 750 people
attending
the GA in Long Beach. We need member sign-ups and volunteers to be
moderators (900 people in all, more or less). Would you please help us
get
the word out? Could you please:
* print out these two pages (can be one sheet, back to back) and
carry
to meetings and conferences for distribution
* put this on District web pages for delegates and GA goers to
access
and download
* sent to congregation for their distribution to their members
If you can do any or all of this, we'd appreciate it.

Join a Covenant Group
At General Assembly 2004
In Long Beach
Small Group Ministries are transforming Unitarian Universalism,
giving congregations a new way to serve their members' needs for
spiritual uplift and connection. At General Assembly this year,
delegates and attendees who apply early enough will be invited to
participate in Covenant Groups. Eight people will meet four times for
one hour with a facilitator trained in helping participants experience
the intimacy and community that are the heart and soul of Covenant
Groups. We hope this pilot program, which will be limited to the first
750 who apply, will help people connect easily with others from around
the continent while offering a taste of how covenant groups can benefit
their home congregations.
BASIC FACTS FOR PARTICIPANTS
Who will be accepted?
The first 750 people whose applications we receive.
Meeting times:
Your first Covenant Group meeting will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 24, at a location to be announced. IF YOU ARE NOT
ARRIVING AT GA IN TIME TO ATTEND THIS FIRST MEETING, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY
TO BE ONE OF THE 750. With only four one-hour meetings, full
participation will be important to the group. Subsequent Covenant Group
meetings will be at about breakfast time, around noon, or near
dinnertime on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
BASIC FACTS FOR FACILITATORS
Who may apply to be a facilitator?
Only those who have facilitated a Small Group Ministry (by whatever
name) in their home congregation for one church year or more.
When would my responsibilities as a facilitator start and end?
First, a training session with about 100 colleagues from 2:00 to 3:30
p.m. on Thursday, June 24, at a GA location to be announced. Next: meet
with your eight participants later that day, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Subsequent Covenant Group meetings will be at about breakfast time,
around noon, or near dinnertime on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
You will also be asked to attend a Covenant Group for facilitators,
aided by a coach, on Friday, June 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Finally,
you will be invited to an Assessment/Celebration Reception (with
refreshments) on Monday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
