Position Title:                Director of Information Technology
Services
Department:                  Information Technology Services
Reports to:                    Executive Vice President
 
Basic Purpose:  
 
Management of fourteen-person information technology staff group.
Provides Association-wide strategic planning and implementation for
information technology.  Manages electronic data and communications
systems, including three-person electronic communications office and
five-person data services office.  Responsibility for managing related
education, support and training for UUA staff.
 
Principal Responsibilities:
 
1.   Coordinates the development of an Association-wide information
technology strategic plan. Collaborates with UUA staff group directors
and administration to establish both near-term and long-term goals,
priorities, and budgets for meeting departmental and Association needs.
Provides direction and guidance for staff groups in defining their
overall electronic data processing and communications systems needs and
requirements.  
 
2.   As a member of the Leadership Council (senior staff team for the
UUA), participates in the development of the Association's strategic
plans, goals, objectives, and budgets.  Serves as technical liaison to
the Information Technology Electronic Communications Committee of the
Board of Trustees.
 
3.      Makes recommendations for electronic communications, networking,
and Internet access, downloading to PC's, data base utilization,
graphics, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and other related
information systems activities as they meet the Associations goals.
Develops procedures and documentation for association wide applications
of electronic data and word processing.  Ensures that system and
information integrity and appropriate documentation are maintained and
that back-ups, internal controls, and audit trails are in place.
 
4.   Anticipates IT needs and encourages new technology adoption where
appropriate.  Keeps informed of new opportunities in the electronic data
processing software, hardware and connectivity industries and make
recommendations on purchasing requirements.
 
5.   Manages the day-to-day operations of all information technology and
data center activities, including the selection, supervision, training
and development of the Information Technology Services staff, and the
maintenance of networking and computing resources.
 
6.   Serves as liaison to and manages software consulting and hardware
vendors used by the UUA to ensure that their systems or services meet
the needs of the Association. 
 
7.   Develops and monitors budgets for information technology and
contains costs accordingly. 
 
8.   Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Vice President
or President.
 
Qualifications:  
 
Knowledge of IT developments and trends for organizations of similar
size and mission.  Ability to develop short-range and long-range IT
operational plans.  Skill in reviewing and revising IT operations and
procedures, formulating IT policies, and developing and implementing new
strategies and procedures.  Ability to coordinate and integrate computer
systems development, enhancement and modifications from an overall
information services perspective.  Proven management and project
management skills.  Graduate degree or equivalent.  Strong
communications skills.  Knowledge of and sympathy with the values of
Unitarian Universalism. People with disabilities and candidates who
