UU WOMEN'S FEDERATION MAKES HISTORIC MOVE
TO BECOME GRANT-GIVING ORGANIZATION
Boston, MA - The Unitarian Universalist Women's Federation recently
voted to change from a direct services membership organization to a
grant-giving and advocacy organization, at a Special Membership Meeting
held June 26 in conjunction with General Assembly at Long Beach, CA.
The Restructuring Task Force recommendations were passed unanimously.
They included:
* Election of a 5-member Board of Trustees
* Appointment of a 4-member Grants Panel
* Passage of a bylaws revision that conformed to the new
structure
"Our members have resoundingly endorsed this radical transformation,"
said newly elected President Nancy Van Dyke in her address to the
General Assembly. "From an organization people support in return for
direct services, to a UUWF foundation which members join to support
grant-making and advocacy work. This is our blueprint for the future,"
she added.
Trustees elected at the special membership meeting were President Nancy
Van Dyke, Sea Cliff, New York; Vice President/Clerk Danielle De Bona,
Onset, MA; Treasurer Barbara Prairie, Berea, KY; Development/
Communications Director Arlene Johnson, Tulsa, OK; and Grants Panel
Chair Linda Lu Burciaga., Phoenix, AZ.
Grants Panel members appointed were Rev. Marjorie Bowens-Wheatley,
Tampa, FL; Rev. Elizabeth McMaster, Philadelphia, PA; Janet Prince, New
Castle, NH; and Justice Waidner, Tulsa, OK.
The UU Women's Federation expects the first grant-giving cycle to start
in the fall of 2005. Grant applications will be considered provided a
UUWF member is involved in the project and the focus is in alignment
with the mission and goals of UUWF.
Appointed by the UUWF board in the fall of 2002, the Restructuring Task
Force included Co-Chairs, Phyllis Rickter and Patsy Madden, Denny
Davidoff, Arlene Johnson and Justice Waidner.
