It is with great joy that we announce that the Water Resources Development
Act (WRDA) has been authorized by Congress just last week! This bill
contains $26.9 million to address erosion at Ferry Beach and Camp Ellis
through the construction of a jetty "spur" and three breakwaters out in Saco
Bay. If the President signs off on the bill and Congress funds it in the
2008 budget, construction could begin as early as 2009. This is the closest
we've ever been to solving this erosion problem and therefore a time for
celebration!
In the meantime, your Ferry Beach Board of Directors has made dune
nourishment/ preservation a top priority. To see what Ferry Beachers have
been doing to protect our precious beach and dunes go to

Many other conferences have also assisted with this project during the
summer - our thanks to everyone who has helped!
We are currently putting together a long range plan to preserve our beach
and dunes in partnership with Maine State Geologists and our Ferry Beach
neighbors. Stay tuned for more information.
