cuc-uumoc email list message #4

Hello, Professional Ministers in Canada (including parish, settled, intern,
interim, community and retired)

cc: CUC board and staff

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

CUC ACM

Thank you to all who contributed to a great Annual Conference & Meeting.

The Confluence Lecture is already an important tradition and it was clear
from looking at registration lists sessions led by our professional
ministers had a much higher attendance than the average.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

GO 4 IT - THE STRATEGIC PLANNING FRAMEWORK

Kalvin Drake, Vice-President of the CUC board, is the board member
responsible for this initiative overall.

Rev. Katie Stein Sather has taken on the role of "sponsor" for "GO DEEP".
Jean Pfleiderer for "GO ON". By the fall Board meeting (mid September), the
board will select a member for "GO OUT" and "GO BIG".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

UUMOC Meeting

Linda Thomson as Associate Executive Director and I attended Wednesday
evening of the UUMOC retreat at Bouctouche, New Brunswick.

>From that I learned this humble email list is appreciated and would work
best send early in the month. I'll aim for the 5th of each month to send
information I think is of interest but with permission to forward to
whomever.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

CUC ANNUAL REPORT

Inadvertently the report from Rev. Ray Drennan and Rev. Wendy McNiven as the
Ministerial Settlement Representatives was omitted. (lost in cyberspace).
We have now put an Addendum on the back page in order to include it for
future editions and website.

UUMOC, RSCC, MSR'S and Compensation Consultants are invited to submit an
annual report. Deadline is April 15 of each year.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

CUC BOARD/UUMOC MEETING

My understanding is that this is worth repeating. Plans for '07 ACM start to
heat up soon, so if there's a request to do it, let me know as soon as
possible.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

REGIONAL FALL GATHERINGS

All dates, locations and program offerings are now finalized. Check with
Directors of Regional Services, Sara McEwan or Linda Thomson or go on
www.cuc.ca <http://www.cuc.ca/> go Events Calendar under the "About Us"
tab.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

NATIONAL CONVERSATIONS

The CUC Board will now be offering a Stream at all Regional Fall Gatherings.
This coming fall, there will be two workshops: one from the Statement of
Principles Task Force and one from the Go4It Strategic Planning group.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

LAY CHAPLAINCY

We now have two parallel Lay Chaplaincy Committees - one for BC & Western
regions and one for Central & Eastern regions. If you have questions or
comments about Lay Chaplaincy, the committees can be reached through
lcc-west at cuc.ca or lcc-east at cuc.ca

John Hopewell who chaired the (Lay) Chaplaincy task force in 1999-2001 will
be working on an evaluation of the recommendations voted on in 2001 for
reporting to the 2007 Annual Meeting including establishing Lay Chaplaincy
committees in all congregatins; training and six-year maximum terms.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE'S MARY?

On Saturday I fly home and will be based in BC most of the summer. I'll be
leading a worship service at UCVancouver and First Victoria on "Daring to be
religious in all that we do."

Linda and I are planning our second annual "road trip" to Eastern Canada for
the fall. I'll be co-leading an Introduction to Lay Chaplaincy in Ottawa
September 30, visiting the New Brunswick congregations-to say "thanks"! and
then leading a workshop on Labyrinths at Ray Drennan's retreat centre on
Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.

As an aside, it was delightful to create with Ray a temporary labyrinth for
the ministers to walk at their retreat. I look forward to seeing the photos!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT'S MARY READING?

Just bought JPod by Douglas Coupland--and two mystery novels-Laurie R. King
and Carl Hiassen's latest! Summer reading time is upon us!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

EMAIL LIST OF THE MONTH

You might enjoy receiving 1-2 messages per month from our Director of
Lifespan Learning, Sylvia Bass West. It's all you ever wanted to know about
religious education but didn't think to ask. Please do encourage your RE
committee/s to also send a blank email to
cuc-sylvia-subscribe at yahoogroups.com and/or check out www.cuc.ca/lifespan.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You are free to forward this email in whole or part to anyone you choose to
share it with.

Take care of yourselves - hope you have a restful and re-energizing summer,

Mary
