True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice. -- Martin Luther King Jr
Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East (UUJME) is an independent organization of concerned UUs working to educate ourselves and our fellow UUs and citizens about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its legal, moral and ethical issues in an effort to bring about peace and justice in Israel-Palestine, including a settlement of the conflict affirming the equality, dignity, freedom and security of all peoples involved.
UUJME has no official affiliation with the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA), and does not speak for the UUA. We are, however, guided by UU principles, as well as international law, UN resolutions, respect for human rights and religious freedom, and UU actions and statements, including
1- the UUA General Assembly 2002 Action of Immediate Witness, "Toward Peace and Justice in the Middle East",
2- the UUA President March 27, 2002 Pastoral Letter, "Contributing 'to a Richer Imagination That Can Lead to Peace'",
3- the UUA October 1982 Board Resolution, "Justice in the Middle East", and
4- the UUA General Assembly 1982 General Resolution, "United States Policy in Relation to the Israeli-Palestinian-Arab Conflict".
In addition, UUJME has joined
5- the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation.
and has endorsed
6- the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) campaign to encourage TIAA-CREF to divest from companies profiting from the Israeli occupation.
